I know that it's been a few days since the passing of Caspar Weinberger but I have a few memories to share. The first was that, at a distance, he looked like Ronald Reagan. The main memory is his major role in the rebuilding of the military which led to the fall of the Evil Empire. It took a man of personal strength to fight off the Beltway beliefs about the military. Eventually, he paid a heavy price for his beliefs and loyalty to the country and to President Reagan. We owe him a big thanks.

"Caspar Weinberger was an American statesman and a dedicated public servant. He wore the uniform in World War II, held elected office, and served in the cabinets of three Presidents. As Secretary of Defense for President Reagan, he worked to strengthen our military and win the Cold War. In all his years, this good man made many contributions to our Nation. America is grateful for Caspar Weinberger's lifetime of service. Laura and I send our condolences and prayers to the entire Weinberger family."
He's an inspiration.
