CNN.com - Senators urge O'Connor to reconsider retirement - Jul 14, 2005
In a copy of the letter obtained by CNN, Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-California, Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana, Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, urged the 75-year-old jurist to return to the court as the chief justice of the United States to avoid what could be a messy confirmation fight over her successor.
Some of these Senators would be the ones putting up the biggest fight. This is a really silly idea and they need to realize who won the Presidential election. Republicans in the Senate didn't put up much of a fight over the Clintom appointees to the SCOTUS even though they were quite far to the left.
