That anybody that can be kept alive on life support in a vegetative state should be kept alive by the government against immediate family wishes if less-immediate family votes otherwise? Can the government override the wishes of spouse and parents if life support could keep a person in vegetative state indefinitely? What if the person doesn't smile and gurgle and they simply breathe quietly? Do you kill people that breathe quietly?
That the government can void a living will if life support will keep the person alive? That if any relative wishes to keep a person in a vegetative state alive, that the spouse must give up custody? Who should pay for the life support? That a new tax should be voted on by the electorate to keep vegetative-state people alive in any hospital.
What about the next case after Terry Schiavo? What are your guidelines? Discuss fiscal issues. What is the role of a living will? If a person's living will says "Keep me alive no matter what..." who should pay?. If a private individual doesn't pony up the money, should the person die for lack of funds?
