CNN - Iraqi PM: 'Terrorists pouring in'

CNN.com - Iraqi PM: 'Terrorists pouring in' - Sep 20, 2004

"Terrorists are coming and pouring in from various countries into Iraq to try and undermine the situation in Iraq. They're coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan, from Europe, from Morocco, from Syria and so on.

In some ways this is bad news but in other ways it is good news. If they come to Iraq then we at least have them going against our military and not our civilians. I am hopeful that we decide to quit fighting a "sensitive" war and go hard after these guys. As of this moment, I do not have faith in the Iraqi military to take care of business. I trust the US military and our allies to win the peace. The only way to win the peace is to crush the terrorists.

Let 'em keep coming. Maybe we can lend them camels to do so. All the more money we save on deployments, troop movements, logistics, etc.

Kind of like putting out some syrup to attract ants - you can kill them all in one place and minimize the mess.

OK seriously, the big problem here is that the terrorist understand the importance of this fight. The American public apparently does not. If they're this determined and organized, think about what they'll be willing to do to affect the election and/or get Bush out.

When you have essentially Christian soldiers occupying the holiest of Muslim holy lands, you're feeding your syrup directly to the queen ant, giving her energy to simply lay more eggs.

I'm curious. Would you send your 18 year old son to liberate Fallujah? Do you believe that much in "the importance of this fight..."?

Tom you sound much like Michael Moore in your comments above. It boggles the mind that anyone would want to send their child in harms way. You seem to miss the point about our military. These brave men and women signed on their own accord and have chosen to defend the U.S., even if that mean taking the fight to the enemy.

The problem with the "flypaper" (or "ant") theory is, there is a near infinite supply of flies. If every one we swat creates five more, we're really not solving much.

We're making enemies faster than we can kill them. What sense does that make, really?

(And how do conservatives deal with the irony that Iraq was not the haven for terrorists Bush claimed it was before the war, while after the war it is the haven for terrorists that he claims it isn't?)

Liberating Fallujah is just one component of the overall mission. Placing a micro (and negative) sample on equal footing with the country's overall objective is flawed logic.

If I had an 18 year old son, he'd be free to choose for himself whether or not to go as he is a legal adult in the eyes of the law.

I served (USAF '84-88) and had fellow airman die at the hands of terrorists (Athens '87). Even as a communications tech, I equipped a flack jacket and M16 in order to defend our assets against them. I can honestly say I was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice even though our overall mission wasn't so prominent in the public eye.

Clever queen ant reply though...if only I had thought to put larvicide in the syrup.
