I caught the start of the US Senate hearings on steroids. Nothing of substance because it was just the opening remarks. Many would ask (including myself) why the US Senate is holding these hearings? Well, I think there are a few good reasons. First and foremost performance enhancing steroids can be extremely dangerous to a person's long-term health. Second, the example to younger athletes is extremely poor. Last and maybe a bit more subtle is the integrity of the game. Performance enhancing steroids are cheating. I don't have any idea who is doing steroids but testing last year revealed that around 5% (can't remember the exact number) were taking them.
My proposal, complete random testing with 60 day suspensions for the first offense.
I understand the union's stance but this is one that they will lose.

Too many times have we seen a highly rated player get busted for drugs, play the whole season, get a slap on the wrist and then a couple of years later busted for the same thing again. If we did it we would get 3-5 at the Greybar Hilton. Guilty is guilty and not a degree of guilt.
