Ephesians 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
This is one of those scriptures that us parents need to keep at the forefront of our thoughts as we deal with our children. Make sure to cross reference Psalm 23:4 (Thy rod and Thy staff, the comfort me) when interpreting the word, discipline. Too much of discipline we turn into just correction. Correction is needed but is not the "all" of discipline.

Sometimes we confuse punishment with discipline. Kevin Leman (sp?) has written several books on this topic and refers to it as Reality Discipline. He teaches that the point of the discipline is to teach, not to punish. When you study the word discipline or disciple in the New Testament you find the same principle - to teach and train.
